This one's actually two posts for the price of one. They've both got the same title, though

Some Lopsided Fanart

It's a bit of self-depracation that I tried to make into a Thing back in 2017. I haven't done it since, so I'd say it has not become a thing

First, some fanart I made all the way back in July 2017 of symbols for various members of the Justice League

Drawings of superhero symbols for, from top left to bottom right: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, the Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern

Superman: I kept this one basically the same. It’s iconic. I used the style from Man of Steel because I like the… smoothness? fluidity? something of that version of the symbol.

Batman: My headcanon is that, at least early on, Batman’s symbol was actually a badge - it adds some more protection to his chest and can be removed and used as a weapon if it has to be. Plus you can hide a cool gadget inside it if you want. Again, it’s iconic enough that I kept it mostly the same.

Wonder Woman: I used the standard WW/Eagle motif, but with a twist: I reimagined the symbol as something painted onto Wonder Woman’s armour. The yellow parts are the paint, the reddish parts are the metal underneath.

As a sidenote, if I was making this art again now I'd keep Wonder Woman's symbol true to the comics as well

Aquaman: The classic A-rune is gold, but gold tends to come through as yellow and there are already a lot of yellow symbols. So instead I went with a dark brown (”bronze”) colour with orange (”copper”) highlights.

Or I could have just used a different shade of yellow. I've learned a bit more about colouring since I made this

Flash: Iconic. Unchanged. I was going to make it look shiny, but that just made the white part look grey. Fortunately I used a pencil for that, so I was able to rub it out.

Honestly, the real reason I didn't change it was probably just that I couldn't think of anything to do with it

Black Canary: I don’t know if she has a symbol in the comics, but I came up with this myself. It’s a bird (a canary is a bird!) and it’s black (a black canary is a bird that’s black!). I made one of the wings bent to suggest that the bird is performing some feat of mid-air acrobatics that requires the bending of one wing and to distinguish it from the other two birds.

Martian Manhunter: It’s a scary space eye. An alien with “manhunter” in their codename should have a scary space eye as their symbol. I used red because martians have red eyes in the DCU, The white iris and purple star pupil are just to make it more than a generic red eye.

And because a purple star was sometimes used as a Martian Manhunter symbol in the comics. I can't believe I didn't mention that

Hawkwoman (and maybe Hawkman too but I’m less familiar with him than I am with her): I took the standard logo and decided that there are already too many red and black logos so I made this one blue and white instead.

Green Lantern: It’s blurry because it’s made out of light. Like a projection would be? Get it?

Anyway, that's that for the DC one. This next bit of fanart is for a few agencies and superhero teams in the Marvel universe

Logos of the Marvel superhero teams and agencies

I took artistic license on some of these, and I made mistakes on other ones. I also didn't write an explanation for these like I did for the DC one, and this is mostly just me remaking my old posts with some annotations or comments, so I'm not going to add an explanation now
