There's Such a Thing as a 'Too Secret' Identity
Think about it. How much easier would a superhero’s life be if they made sure that certain people - like their friend on the force, their older mentor, their love interest, their best friend, possibly their boss - were in the know. How much drama would be prevented if all the hero had to do was say “sorry, [love interest], I’m gonna have to take a rain check on that date, there’s a radioactive wombat creature robbing a McDonald’s”?
Conclusion: superhero stories would be much more optimistic and happy, even if they’re rather dark overall, if the main characters weren’t afraid to mess with their own tropes
